Re: MAX SIMON
Funeral Service Details:
Will be held at
Lancaster & Morecambe Crematorium
Powder House Lane
Lancaster
LA2 6AD
on Friday 14th July at 11:00 followed by a buffet lunch at The Midland Hotel, Morecambe, Marine Road, Morecambe LA4 4BU.
The family would like an idea of numbers attending. Can you please let me know if you will be there - send to bobhrson@gmail.com
Since 'finding' Noah's Arc a few years ago Max has become a friend with whom Linda and I have established a close friendship, meeting regularly. For a gentleman of over 90 years it is remarkable that he has accompanied us on our visit to Medicina in 2015 and attended reunions at Blackpool and at Barton Grange.
Max joined the Regiment in Egypt in 1943 and travelled through Italy including taking part in the battle at Medicina where Major Mann was his Squadron Leader (Rory Mann's dad) and his Commanding Officer was Lt Col 'Freckles' Tilney (Godfrey Tilney's dad). A fluent Italian speaker he was 'captured' by the Int Corps when he arrived at Trieste. He was one of the oldest surviving members of our Regiment.
I will miss him and his stories greatly.
RIP my old friend.

Re: MAX SIMON
Bob,
what luck you had, getting things 'first hand' from a person of Max's calibre. After all of his adventures it is remarkable that he lived to be 94. May he now rest in peace, job done !

Re: MAX SIMON
Thirteen of us attended Max's funeral service (Geoff Hutchinson, Michael McGowan, John Kerwin, Mick Bartley, John & Pat Molloy, Bob & Linda Harrison, Paul Wigmore, Darryl Cartwright, Axle Paul Foley, Pete & Shirley Ashton-Yamnikar) and the family and friends very much appreciated our presence where Paul Wigmore played the Last Post and Reveille.
Our Regimental flag draped the funeral casket and it was also on display at the reception hotel. The Collect of the 14th/20th King's Hussars was read out during the service.
Very disappointing that there was no official Regimental Association or Regimental representation. Max Simon joined 1420H in Egypt in 1943 - before most of us were born - and saw active service in North Africa and Italy, including joining 6GR in the battle of Medicina. A proud Hussar who in recent years made a point of attending both Barton Grange and Blackpool reunions as well as returning to Medicina for the 70th Anniversary when he was 91 years old!
I am proud to have been a close friend of Max.
Rest in Peace Sir

Re: MAX SIMON
Footnote: An amazing revelation came out when Michael Mcgowan recalled that when he was 14 years of age he met Max in a Manchester Royal Signals Army Cadet unit. Wow!
