Such sad news. Fond memories of him in Block MB6, Hohne days with A Sqn (XXH), as well as on the tank park. Always had a smile on his face.
R.I.P Les and my sincere condolences to his family

I just had a mail from Bill Bentley, and just to explain I did not intend to suggest that Les had no manners by using the phrase no aires or grace but rather to make the point the Les wasn't false person he was in fact the opposite
If anyone was upset by the miss understanding in particular Les'S family I apollogise for any missunderstanding or upset it might have caused. I wouldn't sully a mates memory by saying anything to denigrate him not my style.

I thank Bill for pointing it out to me and allowing me this oppertunity to make it clear

I joined juniors with Les in 1976 along with Killer Dewhurst, Stu Duxbury and Paddy Malloy, Les made the dizzy heights of Junior Lance Jack, the only one of the 14/20th contingent to make it. He was a good bloke and always had a smile and a usually bad joke to keep morale up. A very sad loss our sincere condolences to his family.

Such sad news Les was my climbing partner when we climbed Mt Kenya in 82 and we shared many a laugh and a doss bag, I have a couple of old photo's and many many happy memories of Les, an honest to god genuine good guy who never seemed to get stressed and was always quick with a laugh and a joke.
Rest in peace pal Wanny.
