Thankfully when I played we did not have any facillities it was back to the Sqn Bar and wash your insides out with vast amouts of Tarten Bitter then shower when you came to.

Now that the NRC has started and the Championship is almost upon us any suggestions as to who will win? It's Widnes Vikings all the way for me!
PS. stuff Halifax, Barrow and Super League and especially the Pinks.

Widnes Vikings 22 - Barrow Raiders 20
Try in the dying seconds for Widnes over a very scrappy and unimaginative Barrow side. One of the Barrow tries should have been disallowed for a blatant obstruction close to the line. Take away Jamie Rooney and Barrow don't have much to offer.

Widnes Vikings 72 - Keighley Cougars 10
Yet another good win for the mighty Vikings against Yorkshire opposition. Widnes started the action with a patched up three quarter line up, playing two centers who would not normally feature in the first team selection. Good Widnes lads that they are they got stuck in and both scored a hat trick of tries. At half time the score was 34-6 and the Vikings were cruising.
After the restart the ref, Mr Laughton was replaced by a linesman, the excuse was that Mr. Laughton was feeling a "little queer"! The replacement ref made little difference to Widnes, they just kept scoring tries for fun and Keighley wilted under the pressure. The forwards ground down their opposition mercilessly, with the backs running havoc and showing good skills to score some fine tries.
To be fair to the Cougars, this was their first game at this higher level after being promoted last season from Championship 1. If they don't improve soon I can see them going back down, especially as they have already been docked 9 points for going into administration before the season started.

Widnes Vikings 28 Halifax 30
A very close and entertaining game for both sets of fans, only won in the dying minutes by a very good Halifax side.
The difference for me between these teams was the strong and more experienced forwards of Halifax, Gene, Aizue, Larder and Wrench in particular, ably led by Sean Penkywicz who scored a well constructed try brought about by mistakes made by Widnes, because of the pressure of the Halifax forwards.
Branighan for Halifax was always testing the Widnes threequarters with his kicking game, turning them around and not letting them settle into going forward as early as they would have liked.
The young Widnes lads will have learned valuable lessons from this game which I am sure will stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.
A game strewn with errors from both teams but never the less nail biting right untill the end. With performances like this I expect both of these teams to be contesting the Northern Rail and the Championship Grand Finals, with maybe Barrow trying to get in there somewhere.
