14/20H Trumpet & Banner

Post by kevman » Sat Feb 11, 2012 12:12 pm

There is a regimental trumpet complete with embroidered 'Hawk' banner on offer on EBay. Bidding ends 20Feb. There are 2 bids todate...is this you? Thinking of having a punt but don't want to query anybody else's pitch...

Keep 'em Sharp.

I have just looked at this item the banner is to long and not wide enough to be off a herald trumpet. The ones we used had clips on to attach to the trumpet.
The one on Ebay is on a duty Trumpet and we never used this type of banner whilst I served with the band from 79-93, unless these were ised before my time

THE REGIMENTAL PROPERTY BOOKS DISPLAYED TWO MAIN TYPES AND SIZES
A. BLUE BANNER WITH GOLD EDGING AND GOLD FRILLS 20 INCH X 25 INCH. (BLACK HAWK ON CENTRE YELLOW CIRCLE)
B. YELLOW BANNER , ALSO WITH GOLD STRIP AND GOLD FRILLS 17 INCH X 20 INCH ( LARGE CENTRE FULL SIZED BLACK HAWK, I THINK THAT THEY USED TO BE CALLED GARBUTT BANNERS )

THE TRUMPETS WERE NOTHING LIKE THE E-BAY ONE SHOWN

Not from my time 1951-1964. Bill.

We did have a "Fanfare" Trumpets bit not those Banners. Looks very "Hand-Made" to me.

I don't know whether this is a genuine old 1420H item or not. (of course the Hawk is facing the wrong way - but that could be because the banner is double-sided! Items should be made with two seperate sides then stitched together.).

What I can say is that there are a large number of sellers on Ebay who have things manufactured in Pakistan (Sialkot) and then offer them as 'genuine'. Mostly they are not made under license - and by that I mean that to use a military logo the authority of the MOD should be granted. Just look at the mugs, badges, plaques, caps, cuff-links, etc., etc., etc.

Not that I think that the MOD cares a hoot. At least not unless it becomes big business. Somehow though it seems wrong that 'unscrupulous' sellers should make money out of 'our' cap badge.

You might ask why Noahs Arc sells Regimental items. The answer to that is that at a Committee meeting back in our very early days we decided that the 14th/20th King's Hussars cap badge belongs to it's ex-members as much as it belongs to anyone else. We served in the Regiment - we surely have the right to wear the colours. Of course ultimately we are a non-profit organisation and don't seek to make an income from these sales.

I should also point out for completeness that Bill Bentley sought the permission of the KRH before offering his flags for sale and I commend him for that.

Thanks for that footnote Bob and I should also like to underline that I shall not make a single penny of profit on the sale of the flags. All profit going to the OCA and Noah's Arc !

Flags are still available from: Noah's Arc Shop or directly from myself ... flagsandthings@gmx.de ... just send me an e-mail and I'll reply with all further details.

Thank you Brian I thought I was losing my memory.

When I joined the Regt we were using the blue ones on the Fanfare Herald Trumpets and in around 1985 we recieved the Yellow Banners and the Silver Garbutt Trumpet which was awarded to the CO's Trumpeter.
I know an embroidery firm that may produce a banner if one is required, instead of purchasing what looks like a fake regt banner.
I would need good photos though
