Who Were the Better Darts Players?

Post by Bob_H » Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:18 am

We had some great players in B Squadron so I suspect my view is a bit shaded. I always admired the consistency of Roy Standish. But he didn't have it all his own way with challenges for 'the best' coming from Alf Angel and Billy Woodcock. Dave Smethurst too had a claim.

Who was the celebrity that came to the Cavendish Arms? Was it Eric Bristow? Who played against the Celeb?

Bob

I remember the celeb in the celler at the Cavendish, it was not Bristow but the name escapes me now. I remember how much he drank (Bacardi?) and it seemed the more he drank, the better he got.

I seem to recall Jake Flemingt being one guy who took him on, but I guess that must have been 1969? and for sure the memory of that is blurred.

I was runner up in that Players No 6 tournement for the Cpls Mess my semi was at 19.00 the other legs semi was about 22.30 by the time the final was played I could see 3 boards I tried aiming for the one in the middle, forget it.
The guy who won unfortunatly got stuck in nick wrongly accused and later released without charge for something quite nasty. I was invited to go to the tournement finals just as I got back from the MRS having slashed open the back of my right hand. I wouldent have been able to hit a joint of beef with a carving Knife so the No 3 went forward.
