C Squadron 1971

Post by Bob_H » Thu Feb 20, 2014 9:00 pm

It could be argued that C Squadron don't get enough exposure on this website and similar - so this goes some way to putting it right. It comes from Brian Knight who received it from Anthony Byrde. Thanks guys.

Tony/Shep.
Gordon Hall was in training with me in Catterick 70/13 intake along with Paul Kennedy and Tony Jones who both went to A. Sqn. We arrived in Tidworth as C. Sqn were in the middle of NI training. Gorden was supposed to fly out to Hong Kong with me in the November. We had just picked up leave passes for a week before getting our flights and reported to HQ.Sqn office. The clerck asked which one of you is Tpr Hall. He took his leave pass ripped it up and said you wont need that get some training in your off to NI with C. Sqn. He was George Smith's driver. As the other 3 of us were gunners we were not needed.
I think I am wrong on Bill Lacey as the person I thought was him looks to be wearing a crewmans badge backing

Brian
Would the original with names be in the Hawk covering 1971 which would have been issued in 1972.

Phil

If I remember rightly that photo along with others of each troop were not for the Hawk although they might have gotten published. I remember it well,I was troop Leader of 3rd Troop and had to sit to one side whilst visiting officer Mr Crapper/Cropper sat in my place because it would not be right for a troop to be commanded by a senior rank whilst an officersat at his side. It is not an insult me calling him by the above name, he told the troop that he was connected to sanitary ware but I dont know which.
