Dusty :( You have never been short of coming fwd before. Talking of old times remember when you handed over the Cpl's Mess caterers job to me in Benghazi !!! Some time later I was serving in the bar when Mrs ......... a large lady ordered a gin/tonic I went to the stock room got a new bottle put the optic in it on the shelf and measured a double. She went back to the table with ted perdester and tommo and wives. She then yelled out Mick where's the bloody gin !!!
So got a glass pulled a measure from the NEW bottle and it was bloody water, went back into the stock room and the whole lot of gin bottles had been opened and filled with water. Later checked the allsopps beer crates they seemed ok in weight but on opening the cardboard crate the cans were full of sand and had been resealed !!

As you can imagine I was not a happy chuck RSM "Bones" Whitney said it was my fault not to notice when I took over so I had to make up the stock value out of my pay. Which took ages as he would not write them off. Never did find out who conned me any Ideas Dusty.

Mick

I will tell you the truth it was not Me, you have opened a can of worms here mick. The most likely people are the people who worked the bar on the night of the annual cpls mess do. First I must thank the REME people who rebuilt
the outside of the mess after it was destroyed by a ghibli, That night the bar lost at a low estimate £500 which I did
not report, The people who took it are still alive today. But I got the money back thanks to guidance from Nick Weaver.I wont tell you how but I did not water the spirits or put empty cans for stock. The tip was good it did not
have anything to do with stock or cash .

John
I thought everybody was pissed out there, or was I that drunk. think not I spent most of my in the Radio Hut. scanning for others on their radios even got white sands in the states putting out warning calls.

John
I am sorry but I do not remember you in Libya. If you were there I was a full corporal (Troop Leader 3rd troop) due ton a shortage of officers. Got bust by Mike Palmer. Went to assault troop with John Marcelle and Billy Bingham. Then back to sabre troop with Ben Marshall and Pete Holland. Then worked with Joe Bury Left Benghazi to Take over stores in advance of A Sqn move to Tripoli. Left Tripoli for Cyprus to Dekealia? advance party then to Zyggi. Left
Cyprus for leave then ere to 7 armoured Bde Brigs Flight 9 Flt AAC. then to Tidworth then NI took over as troop leader answered the Sqn Ldrs question at Ramnuggar having asked him if he wanted the truth, he did not.
Posted to A Sqn. My MUM was taken into hospital after having a heart attack, I told her I would leave the Army and return to home to look after her. Put in my papers, they were accepted paid the fee . my MUM died before I got out.
The latter bit can be confirmed by mick burgess who called me back back to tidworth immediately after the Funreal
was over. Being the only child I did not have time to sort out anything. I was then glad that I had agreed to leave. If people I knew could be so callous when I had lost both my parents whilst in NI I did not want it. I have put a list of what I did because I have been asked why I left the Army.

Hi tony,
I was 5th troop A sqn from 62 ( jeremy hope tp ldr. jim harris tp sgt, alan smith tp cpl. the rest of us rabble. joe smith, johnny carmody, barry taylor, phil midgley, harry taylor. and me) most of this changed in tripoli.
in cyprus I was in shq troop. and stayed with shq until I left in dec 66.
I think the last time we met was at barton grange at the 92 reunion. I was with joe fine and mick bush.
having said that. anyone remember aristotle the dog at zyyi. who geordie richardson swears talked to him as he crawled back from sqn bar.

John
The Barton Grange 92 I remember met Ted Campbell, Jackie was sat outside. Got totally pissed probably because I did not really drink at that time. Did you have stamps in your top pocket? Funny how little things can spark memories.
I remember John Carmody, Barry Taylor, Phil and Harry, What happened to Pete Hartshorne?

Tony, Pete Hartshorne was living in Chesterfield in 2005 working as the chapel attendant at the local crematorium, still with that sense of humour that was his trade mark. Sammy
