Our Guidon
The Guidon of the 14th/20th
King's Hussars
- Welcome to Noahs Arc -

This is the home of the 14th/20th King's Hussars - the finest Regiment of the British Army in which anyone would ever want to serve. The Regiment was amalgamated in 1992 to become the King's Royal Hussars but we are now proud to boast possibly the largest ex-members club of any Regiment.

Our aim is to perpetuate the memory of the 14th/20th. If ever you marched behind our Guidon you are most welcome. If you did not, we equally welcome you in visiting us.

Please read our notices below or use the navigation bar above to wander around our website.

Success For John Marcelle
and Macular Disease Sufferers

If you were at the Reunion 2007 in Southport you probably signed a petition on behalf of John Marcelle who was campaigning on behalf of sufferers of this eye disease, to enforce the Government to allow the prescription of the drug Lucentis in the whole of UK (already available in Scotland).

John recently received great news when he learned that the campaign had been successful. Our congratulations go out to John with the hope that the drug can now commence to improve his own eye condition.

John has sent me this recording of his Five News interview but it is not the best of recordings and I've only been able to convert a portion of the DVD into Windows Media Format.

    "The Regiment"

Standing features of the Noah's Arc Reunions are the Regimental flag-raising and flag-lowering ceremonies.

Have a look at the photos of the first of these as recorded by Brian Hunter at Reunion 11. For me, the overwhelming conclusion is the fun that people get from this activity. - Click Here

The old cliche comes again - How Can It Get Better Than That?

If you served in or with the the 14th/20th King's Hussars and you weren't in Southport for this weekend then you were in the wrong place!. Once again a huge gathering of old comrades turned out to make this a memorable occasion. Mick Burgess making his first visit and the memorabilia brought along by Kevin Whittaker were just two of the highlights. How refreshing too to see members bringing their family members along - maybe Noahs Arc will live forever after all!

A word must be said for the Hotel. Last year was good, but the catering this year was absolutely top drawer. Whether you had the Hotpot or Lasagne on Friday, casual meals, breakfast or enjoyed Saturday's fabulous buffet, they could not be faulted. Danny Tomlin and his crowd might argue (rightly) that the lift doors should open when you want to get out, and the draught Tetleys shouldn't go flat (One member drank 15 pints of it so he should know!) but all-in-all a great weekend

With a later April date next year, the bi-Annuals returning, and hopefully a price chop, we're expecting a bumper turn-out next year. Book your Hotel Room now! - put this date in your diary:

April 18th/19th 2008 - the Royal Clifton Hotel, Southport
    Telephone: 01704 533771, E-Mail: reservations@royalclifton.co.uk, FAX: 01704 500657
Postal: The Royal Clifton Hotel, The Promenade, Southport, PR8 1RB

ps. There is no truth in the rumour that Mick McGowan is taking bugle lessons!

    The Invincible Eagles

I was privileged to once again be invited to the reunion of The Invincible Eagles - the band of the 14th/20th King's Hussars - in Lytham St Annes last evening (7/5). Once again, Don & Mary Bateman with their daughter Christine put on a splendid event.

After dinner Don surprised us all by presenting CDs of the Band. These have been processed from an old two-spool tape recording of a broadcast made over the West German radio network Sender Freies Berlin in 1959. Several members of that band were present at this reunion. In those days the band had a strength of 30 and were renowned as one of the finest of line bands.

You can now have a copy of this music, and I promise, you will not be disappointed. Cost is just £6.50 including Post & Package. If you have Don's address send orders direct to him - otherwise drop me an email and I'll send the information on to you. Send Email

    The Regiment Lives On!

One or two attendees probably won't admit to having a tear in their eyes as the Regimental flag once again was raised in front of a large number of old comrades.

And what else but a toast to "The Regiment" in our very own piss-pot (oops - sorry, Chambermaid)?

We are indebted to our good friends Don Bateman (reveille), Harry Bennett (flag bearer) and our vice Chairman, Mick McGowan.

Also pictured: Jock Gibson, Pete Stuffins, John Clements, Harry, and a quarter of Jim Thomas.
