Mr Max Simon

Postby Bob_H » Sat Nov 29, 2014 10:21 am

Yesterday I met up for the first time with a gentleman with whom I've been corresponding for around three years.

Let me introduce Mr Max Simon.

Max is only one of two (as far as we know) survivors of the Battle of Medicina. He's 91 years old in the next couple of weeks and still gets around well enough. The plan is to escort Max to Medicina for the 70th Anniversary of the battle in April next year. There is no doubt that he can keep us entertained with tales for hours. He says "I'm only too pleased the Gurkhas were on our side". He stayed with the Regiment on their push North as far as Padua and ended up in Trieste where his boss (he says) "...made me transfer to the Intelligence Corps!"

Welcome Max,

First as an ex Hussar, not an ex Hawk for once a Hawk always a Hawk, and secondly as an Old Intelligencer. I wasn,t ordered to transfer to the Int Corps, I thought the situation would be made better if I did.

Anyway a very warm welcome, and boys you will look after him in Medecina won't you?

Interestingly Max speaks fluent Italian. That's going to go down very well with the locals (it might be difficult to get the microphone from him :))

What a find, what a gem, take a tape recorder along to Medicina Bob, that will be more than living history ! Welcome indeed Max, now pull up a sandbag and tell us a story ... or three !
