Pack Horse has "packed in", I went past a couple of weeks ago, boarded up and for sale.
As a lad, (10 /13) I was a season ticket holder at Bury and really used to enjoy going to Gigg Lane. In those days, you didn't seem to have to worry about the kind of arseholes who roam the streets these days. There again, if you were lucky/unlucky you might run into "Copper" Dixon and he' would usually question you as to what you were doing. We use to play football under a street light virtually every night, and funnily enough, they didn't seem to complain.
Ah, the good old days. Now they go out and want to kill one another.
Lived in Westhoughton for the past 28 years or so and a lot of the pubs there have gone. Having said that, I doubt whether I have been in more than 3 of them. They wouldn't get rich on the amount I drink.
Somewhere, I have a local history book that gives a write up on all the Whitefield pubs, must try and dig it out.
Bet you visited the Outdoor at the side of the Bee Hive a few times John. Quite liked the nutty taste of that Duttons OBJ Pale Ale they sold.
