Alf

was my troop sgt in Cyprus, Paddy Cullen was troop Cpl. What a marvelous pairing we worked hard but were allowed to laugh as we got it done .

I rememebr that the RSM of the resident infantry regt wanted us to do two things one was to join in on their weekly Regimental Parde so we drove on in Saladins and Ferrets while the inf walked (marched) on We wer not invited back (Alfs Idea) the second was he wanted us to take part in the WEEKLY regimemtal BFT we turned up in tie died vests white base ball caps bermuda shorts, then proceeded nto with the troop/ Platoon comp for best times we were not invited back again (Again Alfs Idea)

He was atop top Guy and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him

So sad to hear another legend has gone to that great parade ground in the sky. My thoughts go out to all his family.
I remember the theatrical production of Oliver! in Hohne when my mum played Mrs Bumble and Alf Angel played a brilliant Bill Sykes. I went to every rehersal and must have watched his performance a hundred times. In the matinee itself, I was sat in the middle of the front row and Alf did his legendary 'lunge' in my direction, thinking that as a seasoned audience member, I was the one child who would not be scared. Well, I jumped back so violently, I dropped my sweets and whacked my head hard off the back of the seat. My dad was in stitches! Alf, your still the best Bill Sykes I have ever, ever seen, far better than Oliver Reed and I still make a point of shouting this fact at the telly whenever Oliver! is broadcast or mentioned. RIP Mr Angel.
