Sir Richard Dashwood, Bt

Postby Bob_H » Wed Apr 17, 2013 9:19 am

Ron Flowers has sent on this very sad news of the death of Sir Richard. Many of us will remember this 'dashing' Officer from our time in Paderborn.

I received an email yesterday from a relative of my wife. He was a school friend of Sir Richard Dashwood Bart. and had been friends with him since then.

He informed me that "Dicky" as we knew him from the regiment but "Bart" (short for Baronet) as he knew him had passed away on Sunday 14th April.

I enquired if the family would be happy for this to be published on NOAHS ARC and he said that his son Sir Fred Dashwood had asked that the information be passed on to all that knew him.

Service of Thanksgiving Details: Sir Richard James Dashwood.— 9th Bt, and beloved father of Fred, died peacefully aged 63 on 14th April 2013, at Katharine House Hospice, Adderbury. Private Family Funeral, to be followed by Service of Thanksgiving at the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Church Street, Deddington, at 2.30 p.m. on Friday 17th May. Family Flowers only, and donations if desired to The Fundraising Office, Katharine House Hospice, Adderbury, Oxon OX17 3NL, Tel: 01295 812161.

I can only echo Sheps words, Dicky was my first Troop Leader and I had the pleasure of being his driver for almost two years.

A fine Officer and it was always a pleasure to meet up with him after he had left the Regiment.

RIP Sir Richard

I was sad to read of thius cavalry officers passing, as Shep said, he was a real gentleman who always looked after his lads.
I fondly remember him in 1970 , Singapore A sqn, taking our SHQ troop in two LWB landrovers on a coastal tour of Maylaya, during which we stayed for a night at a tea plantation owned by one of his relations. During our stay we drove some of his antique motors around the tea tracks, stayed in the main house, and listened to the owner playing his violin on the veranda at midnight. yes he was an excentric but really opened his manor house to us all.
He was a chip of the Dashwood block.
RIP Sir Richard, you were a real Hussar officer, who provided us with fond memories

Very saddened to read about the death of Dicky Dashwood. He was the best troop leader I served under and with Steve Cox and Brian Askins we had many great memories of our time with him in A Squadron, particularly in NI. He was a real Hussar and a gentleman. Steve and Brian have asked me to pass on our condolences to his Family.

I heard that he had been in poor health recently.

Some happy memories of 2nd troop in NI withg Askins, Higgins, Cox, Leonard and the rest. I drove him for a time over there and remember quite a few incidents, including the close shave with the barbed wire across the road.

As previously said, a fine and respected officer who coulkd give and take a joke, with no airs or graces. Always liked to catch 40 or even fifty winks if at all possible.

RIP Sir Richard (Dicky) ... You won't be forgotten by many in your old troop.
