Hi Bill,

Yes you are right, both came from Gorton as did you and I. They fought like cat a dog . Both a pair of cracking lads.

If any one knows where they are, point them to the ark sight. Cheers Dusty

If anybody has Les Critchlow's e-mail address (I did have it, but he keeps changing it and I'm too slow to keep up) he might be able to help. I seem to recall that as young soliders we used to hang around together with Dave & Jimmy along with Tony Kendal, Jack Dombervand, John Mallilue (?) and a few others. Who else was at Tony Kendals wedding ? I think he got half a dozen toasters as wedding presents because everyone had bought them cheap ... from the back of a lorry

Gorton, ah Dusty you are going back to when one could row a boat and paddle at the Lake Hotel. Last time I saw it, the lake was a car park and the hotel was a ruin. Fond memories of very poor times, before TV, when nobody knew what they didn't have and didn't miss a thing :) . How times have changed, now we have everything and most still want more ... :?.

Hi Dusty
Mandy daves daughter lived across the Road from me up to 18 Months ago. Dave and his Mrs live at the top end of Mount Road area in Levenshulme, He runs his own joinery business. He was before that one of the bosses at Royal Mail on either Newton St or Oldham Road. If anyone is still looking to contact Jimmy I can get a message to him thro one of the girls I know. But that may not mean he wants to reply.

Roy,

thanks for that, all the very best to you too ! I have contacted a number of people over the years but time has changed them, some for the better, others have gone the other way, sad really.

A short story about Pete Elsdon, who I very much admired with his quiet but effective ways.

One day, many years ago, I was cruising at something over a ton on my motorbike, the village of Wareham was ahead so I throttled back off the gas and rolled gently into town, stopping at the traffic lights. When they turned green I turned right heading for Wool, after a couple of hundred yards I heard police sirens and eased over to let them pass, thinking there must be an accident or something. This police car overtook me then did a real Sweeny number, blocking the road directly ahead of me. A cop came galloping over and Pete said words to the effect ... 'I've been chasing you for a couple of miles you crazy ... fucking hell, I might have known, my place, tea, now' !

Listening to his version I had entered town just over the speed of light  , yeh, yeh, yeh   !

Bless 'im ! That was the last time that I saw him. I do hope that he is well and happy !

Phil,
I couldn't find the 3rd Carbs site, got lots of information about carburettors, so perhaps you read my motorbike tale in too much detail. Also got loads of information about carbohydrates, so perhaps all my nagging about fasting and good food has become stuck in your throat. Now please don't go suggesting I should look under Bing or screaming Yahoo at me, I only use the Noah's Arc search machine (and google when the Arc didn't have a suitable candidate on board ... you will remember the Unicorn was AWOL !). Bloody computers !
Thanks for trying, please try again ... :?

Bill, by 'links' Phil is suggesting that you click on 'Links' near the top of this page. Then scroll down to 'Smudger Smith's Site' and click on that. :)

Thank you Robert,

read the instructions from start to end before starting to assemble !

Don't think that I have ever looked in that list before, thought it was just more ... whatever, I am a little wiser now. If I live to be 110, I might be able to pass my 11 plus 0 = oh shit, some people will never learn.

I found Pete's pictures and that was the aim of the exercise  . Thanks again Phil & Bob.
