Perhaps we should rename this thread the creeping total.

Come on guys, the fund got off to an amazing start but we need to keep the ball rolling.
If we expect Bob, and those chosen to administer the fund, to be able to function on our behalf and, perhaps more importantly, on behalf of our comrades - the regiment that we want to be remembered, then we need every single person to do their bit ! Pennies make pounds, there is no minimum limit ... and no maximum limit either :D !!

I've had several promises of 'cheques in the post' - my letterbox is always well lubricated.

Things are looking up, the cavalry is on its way ... HUSSAR !

Will we top the 2,000,- before Christmas ???

Christmas regards to all who have donated and thanks to those who have done all of the hard work getting this far.

What a wonderful gesture from somebody, making up the 2,000,- pounds in time for Christmas, thank you !

But we should not stop here, 2,000,- pounds is just that what is required as 'our contribution towards a paving stone'. I do not doubt there are considerable administration costs etc. Having been a Chairman of the RBL I am always surprised at what the members EXPECT their committee to do from the good of their hearts. Doing the work is never enough, they should pay for the privilege as well, or so it seems.

There was talk of 'our own monument' has this noble idea been cast aside ?

I think I once read that some 600 members have the advantage of Noah's Arc, if that were correct, I have just counted 23 contributions, that means less than 4% have contributed; must so few do so much for so many ?
Somebody mentioned earlier that if everyone put in just a fiver we would do well, so where are all the fivers ?

If there is anybody who seriously can't afford at least fiver, please let me know 'by private message' and I shall get a couple of slices of bread to you just as soon as I can, don't want anyone going hungry do we, after all it is Christmas !

Bloody well done who ever you are ! I was really chuffed to see the extra 'tenner' (2x5 ?) land in the kitty. For some a hundred pounds is nothing but for others a fiver is a lot. At the end of the day it's only money ... a couple of beers or a decent portion of fish and chips. But what it really is, is how much one is prepared to 'go without' to immortalize the memory of our regiment ! Before too long we shall all have gone and if there is no solid evidence of us ever having been here, well, that would be a real shame.

I enjoy all of those archaeological programmes and the one thing that is obvious is that 'only that what is carved in stone stands the test of time'. When our dust is blowing in the wind, I don't doubt that specks of some of us will again meet, fleetingly, as we did during our service together. If there is something carved in stone, perhaps it will draw us together, like a magnet and we can rejoice and be proud of what we once were and, in that moment, are again ...

I guess we all know that strange feeling when we enter a graveyard, all those specks of dust, all of those souls ... looking for friends, for a place to gather ... but so many never find that place, never find their peace !

It's a lonely thought, having nowhere to get back together, no point to focus on, just moving on and on and on, endlessly searching, with nowhere to go.

I'm OK, I served in six units and will be bouncing back and forth from one gaggle of friends to the next. Spooking those who want to join us, but can't, because they were not really a part of the family.

Again I remember with great affection that old song that our rugby players sang with such gusto, 'The Battle of Selby Bridge' ... „and we were amongst 'em“. Were you really 'amongst 'em' ? Did you 'go without', will you be there again 'amongst 'em', rejoicing ??? Or will you be outside in the cold looking in through the window wishing you had a friend and a place to meet, for all of eternity ...
