To the Heroes of Ramnuggar

Postby Bob_H » Sat Nov 22, 2014 8:48 am

Saturday 22nd November marks the 166th Anniversary of the Battle of Ramnuggar.

On the 22nd November 1848 on the banks of the Chenab in the Punjab, HM 14th Light Dragoons fought a savage though successful battle in order to force the Sikhs back across the river. Colonel William Havelock led his troops not only to the edge of the river but into it, where they became almost immobile and suffered heavy losses including the loss of Colonel Havelock.

In our usual way we join together in a toast to "The Heroes of Ramnuggar" wherever in the World you are.

This evening at 7 O'clock 4 O'clock UK time I shall raise my silver mini emporer (christening cup shaped like a potty)

and toast the hero's of Ramnuggar............... "HUSSAR".........................

I learnt well that the rituals of tradition are importent while serving in foreign lands and bind you to your own (our) History and culture.

Hi Fellas,

I was referring to the custom of Mr Vice: Cup, Drink, Head!

Just my failed attempt at humour!!

Cheers
